Update Sepaku Hosting dan Niche Blog Network

March 1st, 2010 4 comments

So, already late to move, and I will move on to other hosting.

Web 2.0: The new revolution of Internet

November 4th, 2008 2 comments
By Asmawati Shahabudin

Have you heard about the term Web 2.0? Probably most Internet users nowadays not realize that they have move one step forward in the Internet revolution call Web 2.0. In the early days of dot com burst, they used to call it World Wide Web as Web 1.0 and after that to differentiate the phenomenon of ich Internet application they use one more term called Web 2.0.

THE DEFINITION

The term became notable after the first O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004. According to Tim O’Reilly Web 2.0 is the business revolution in computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform.

Web 2.0 looks like a new adaptation of the World Wide Web, but it does not change the technical specifications of it, but it changes how software developers and end-users utilized the Web.

Terry Flew, in his 3rd Edition of New Media described the differences between previous Web and Web 2.0 as move from personal websites to blogs and blog site aggregation, from publishing to participation, from web content as the outcome of large up-front investment to an ongoing and interactive process, and from content management systems to links based on tagging (folksonomy).

The change from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 can be seen as a result of technological refinements, which included such adaptations as “broadband, improved browsers, and Ajax, to the rise of Flash application platforms and the mass development of wigetization, such as Flickr and YouTube badges” [1]

Just imagine during personal web pages were very popular in the early days of Web, and these consisted of mainly static pages hosted on free hosting services such as Geocities. Nowadays, dynamically generated blogs and social networking, such as Facebook, You Tube and Flickr, are more popular, allowing for readers to comment on posts in a way that was not available during Web 1.0.

SOME DIFFERENCES

This some typical design elements of a Web 1.0 site include:

  • Static pages instead of dynamic user-generated content.
  • The use of framesets.
  • Proprietary HTML extensions such as the blink and marquee tags introduced during the first browser war.
  • Online guestbooks.
  • GIF buttons, typically 88×31 pixels in size promoting web browsers and other products.
  • HTML forms sent via email. A user would fill in a form, and upon clicking submit their email client would attempt to send an email containing the form’s details.

According to Best [2] some characteristics of Web 2.0 are: rich user experience, user participation, dynamic content, metadata, web standards and scalability. Further characteristics, such as openness, freedom and collective intelligence by way of user participation, can also be viewed as essential attributes of Web 2.0.

CONCLUSION

Web 2.0 is social and let user control the data and information. Web 2.0 is about new interfaces – new ways of searching and accessing Web content. And last but not least, Web 2.0 is a platform – and not just for developers to create web applications like Gmail and Flickr. The Web is a platform to build on for educators, media, politics, community, for virtually everyone in fact!

Web 2.0 is all of the above things – don’t let anyone tell you it’s one or the other definition. Web 2.0 is about the people, when it comes down to it. So it has to be inclusive. The definitions of technologists, social scientists, web designers, philosophers, educators, business people, anybody – they all count.

Make PC Searchable

October 22nd, 2008 No comments

I face this problem almost everyday when I work with ton of data. Sometimes I could not remember where I put my file and folder. Day after day the data increase, and the primary problem is finding what I need when I need it. Sometimes I feel that it is easier to find information online rather than in our own PC. Luckily, now our PC is equipped with search tools that make our drives accessible with no hassle.

Let’s take a look on what tools that can make your PC search friendly. And, you need to know how to optimize it for faster search.

In Windows Vista
If you need comprehensive searching tool, this is one reason why you should consider changing to Windows Vista. In Windows Vista, the search function is almost everywhere; Start Menu, Windows Explorer, Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer and etcetera.

This feature called by Microsoft as Instant Search. That’s mean Instant Search will gives you result almost in real time.

Open the Start Menu, type the first few letters of a program or file you are searching, and while typing the search result will appear the names of the programs and files that Vista thinks you are looking for.

Vista comes with comprehensive indexing service that runs in background almost every time since you first install the operating system. Instant Search not just indexes names of program and files but also the contents of files, email and visited web pages. Basically it is similar to Internet search engine and just about as effective.

In Windows XP
Earlier versions of Windows do not have Instant Search. In XP, user must using search option in the Start Menu or pressing Windows key plus F (Windows + F = Find). It will take much longer and searching must be specified with file name.

Microsoft then comes out with Windows Desktop Search (www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/desktopsearch) to Windows XP users. By using this tool you can speed up your search.

Latest version of WDS, 3.0.1 is designed for Win XP SP2, Win Server 2003 and Win XP 64-bit.

Other tools

Google’s Desktop Search (http://desktop.google.com) and Yahoo! Desktop Search (http://desktop.yahoo.com) still on top and they support Linux and Mac. Most important they give it for free.

Active Directory in Win2003

May 18th, 2005 No comments

Hi guys…last week was the desperate one. I’m studying 70-290 for the whole week but on Saturday it was a disaster. The exam delivery provider’s system goes down, so we all need to do the exam again. I has been reschedule to be this Saturday, 21st May. Fuhhh…we all gone mad actually but it still give us some advantages because the simulation questions was quite difficult.

Some of the simulations need us to configure

  • shadows copies
  • SUS server
  • IIS server
  • performance log

and many more. It seems to be very difficult because in class we just go for basic conceptual and understanding. Time to complete each module was not reasonable; just for 2 or 3 days for one module, ridiculous……

So this type of scheme, SLG or anything else, wil not achieve its goal if in the future things still goes like this.

Anyway I need to improve by my own. Just now my instructor told me to buy Virtual PC software. By using it we can simulate many PC into one desktop environment. Sounds insteresting…I need to try it

This week have learned some more about Active Directory technology. It’s pretty difficult to understand…it’s all about Active Directory component and how to design the AD network infrastructure.

huaarrgggghhh…struggle within
